The beaches of the eastern coast of Florianópolis are the longest of them all, and have been saved from too much development by the dunes and hills behind many of them making construction impossible. Much of the area is also protected land. This stretch has the best surf on the island, the largest dunes, a dappled pine forest, nature reserves, the beautiful Lagoa da Conceição and miles of empty beaches with trails over the hills between them. The views from the summits of the hills along the coastline take in all this.
