South Bay Beaches

The beaches of the South Bay of Florianópolis begin after the rocky trail up from the southern tip at Naufragados. The curve in and out with the mountains and shelter fishing villages such as Ribeirão da Ilha, the historical highlight of Floripa. The best way to see these beaches is to drive yourself as far down the western coast of the island as possible and stop along the way whenever possible. The highway between the airport and the city makes stopping difficult, and probably not worthwhile anyway, but between the airport and the end of the road south, it is worth stopping in as many places as you have time for, as the coast road passes many charming beaches.
