Praia dos Naufragados
Praia dos Naufragados is the southern-most of Florianópolis' 100 or so beaches. It faces south and the continent can easily be seen from every point of its 1.5km length, being only around 3km away from the sand.
The stunning beach is 4km walk through the Atlantic Rainforest from the end of the west coast road.
Any walk here to see the beach, the islands, the lighthouse and the continent from the sands of Naufragados is worth the journey on a sunny day. Floripa doesn't get much better than this for scenery.
You can also imagine how difficult it would have been for those wooden boats of the first settlers to enter the calmer waters of the South Bay, protected as it is by rocks, islands, winds and waves. The journey back to the bayside communities wasn't always so easy or enjoyable either.
The beach is named after people that washed up there and possibly had to find their way back overland with no paths or road to help them at that time. Praia dos Naufragados means Beach of the Shipwrecked.
