Festa Junina in Brazil

All throughout the south of Brazil during June is the festival celebrating... June. Festa Junina. Or the Festa da Sao Joao if you prefer. If you see people wearing strange gingham outfits, don't worry.

People all over the country dress up in countryside clothing, the girls wear pigtails and put dots on their faces, everybody blacks out at least one tooth, and pinhão, quentão and pipoca are consumed everywhere. Pinhão are the huge pine nuts that are boiled and then either cut open or the soft nut pulled out from its dark shell with your teeth. Quentão is Brazilian mulled wine, and  while Brazilian red wine might not be the best in the world, it suits being warmed and spiced up on a cool Floripa night.
