ASP WQS Event won by Aritz Aranburu

Aritz Aranburu from the Basque Country beat home hopes Rodrigo Dornelles and Gabriel Medina to win the ASP WQS Maresia Surf International 2010 at Praia Mole. The event had been delayed by high winds cancelling Friday's schedule.
Aritz Aranburu from Spain held off two Brazilians over the weekend to win the ASP WQS Maresia Surf International 2010 at Praia Mole on 23 May. Aranburu beat Gaucho beat Rodrigo Dornelles in the final, after putting out defending champion and Go Floripa favourite 16 year old Gabriel Medina in the semi-final.
The ASP World Qualifying Series event saw a week of mixed conditions with the Friday cancelled due to a strong Vento Sul. Our boy didn't let us down though, and still showed signs of the flair and talent that mark him out as a future superstar especially while winning his quarter-final on the Saturday. The rankings show improvements with Arunburu and Dornelles inside the Top 50, and Medina in 69th place and rising steadily. All are hoping to qualify for the 2011 ASP tour.
The event was well attended at the weekend, with a show by Dazaranhas to round it off. The only problem was the lack of beach! High seas left Praia Mole with little sand for spectators who watched from the bars up above.
