Florianopolis Ironman Start

The 2010 Ironman Brazil comes to Florianopolis on 30th May. The sea and roads around Jurere, Canasvieiras and the main highway down to the city and back will all be busy with swimmer, riders, runners and spectators throughout Sunday.

For the 10th time, the Ironman Series chooses Florianopolis as its Brazilian home. The legendary race begins in the relatively calm waters of Jurere for the 3.8km swim, before competitors take to their bikes for the 180km ride around the highway between Jurere and Florianopolis itself. Finally just the 42km marathon around Jurere and Canasvieiras to finish.

2009 winner Eduardo Sturla from Argentina managed a course record of 8hrs 13min 39sec in taking his third Brazil Ironman title. Another Argentinean three time winner, Oscar Galindez, will also be aiming for a magical fourth title. Brazilian Number 1 Reinaldo Colucci is hoping to break the tape first after finishing twice in the previous three races.

Dede Grisbauer is back to defend her title, while Hillary Biscay will be competing just a week after winning the Lanzarote Ironman!

Competitors take to the water at 7am, with the winners likely to be finishing around 3pm and other competitors up to 5 or 6 hours later.
